Anomalous scattering with soft X-ray radiation creates new possibilities in phasing for macromolecular crystallography. For example, with CrKα radiation the contribution to the anomalous term from sulfur is doubled compared to that for CuKα. CrKα radiation also improves the strength of anomalous scattering of many other intrinsic elements in macromolecules, like calcium, zinc, and phosphorus, because of increased Δf''. Furthermore, the anomalous scattering of selenium is increased substantially with CrKα.
